A Stay at the Fabulous Palacio Duhau-Park Hyatt in Buenos Aires!

There is no better introduction to Buenos Aires than a stay at the Palacio Duhau, or Park Hyatt, Buenos Aires. The 5-Star hotel is located in the Recoleta, an upper-end residential neighborhood known for its elegance, shopping, fine dining, and beautiful European style architecture. It is also known for the impressive Recoleta Cemetery, but more on that later!

The Park Hyatt, or Palacio Duhau, is not just a hotel but a hotel with a history. It is truly a palace, built in the 1920s on an Alvear Avenue lot belonging to Alejandro Hume, a railway executive. The property was sold to the Duhau family, significant landowners, who commissioned an architect to build a mansion inspired by the Chateau du Marais in Paris. The result is a building of imposing neoclassic design. It is a beautiful sight, especially in the evening, when the lights show it to perfection.

The Palacio Duhau graciously invited my guest and me to enjoy a wine and cheese tasting, followed by a beautiful meal at their Restaurante and Vinoteca. We sampled both white and red Argentinian wines, and the Malbec was outstanding. Malbec is Argentina’s signature red grape, and is a testament to Argentinian wine. It has a taste of berry and honey, with a velvety texture. Sitting in the gardens of the Palacio Duhau is a special experience on its own, the garden is beautiful with running water in the middle of it.

Our room was in the Posada building, where the view of the palace and the Vatican Embassy next door kept us captivated. Buenos Aires is proud that their native son and Bishop, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is Pope Francis. The restaurant at the Posada building, the Gioia Restaurante, and Terraces, looks up at the Palacio Gardens and the palace itself. We enjoyed breakfast there every morning and had a few other meals there as well. Why leave the Palacio to dine when their restaurants are so fantastic?

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Palacio Duhau, Park Hyatt, Buenos Aires. Of course, Hyatt is always welcoming and gives a high level of service at all locations. I have stayed in hotels all over the world. Still, I must say that the Palacio Duhau is one that will always linger in my memory. The gardens, the view, and the palace’s elegant rooms create an experience, not just a place to stay. The Palacio Duhau is the perfect companion for the exploration of a most cosmopolitan city, Buenos Aires.
