Experience Safe Holidays in Georgetown’s Historic Town Square

Experience The Holidays Safely in Georgetown’s Historic Town Square

Enjoy festive lights in the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas both online and in person

(Georgetown, Texas) – The traditional Lighting of the Square in Georgetown, Texas will look a little different this year due to Covid-19. The lights around the historic downtown square and county courthouse will be turned on mid-November so more people can visit in a more socially distanced manner. And in lieu of the popular, annual official lighting ceremony, the city will share a video of the program on social media, complete with the countdown, lighting, and music for home viewing.

Additionally, the downtown square will host hot chocolate and kettle corn vendors November 27-29, the weekend after Thanksgiving, to help visitors get into the holiday spirit. The square will be lit through January 2 so everyone can enjoy the lights and local flavor throughout the holiday season.

“In consultation with medical experts, City Council, City Manager David Morgan and City staff, our solution is as close to our normal Lighting of the Square as we can get while keeping our community as safe as possible,” Mayor Dale Ross said. “Having a countdown video along with a modified, enhanced, weekend-long celebration gives people options based on their level of comfort. This plan helps spread out the time in which people can experience our beautiful, sparkling, winter wonderland of a Square at this time of year.”

Those coming to the square to enjoy the lights must comply with existing local and statewide orders, including wearing a mask whenever unable to keep six feet of distance from people outside their household.
