#GivingTuesday is More Important in 2020 than Ever, and there is so much need. Be generous and give with all your heart!
Giving Back to Our Planet
We are seeing how quickly Mother Earth can recover, and we need to think about what we want our planet to look like going forward. Coronavirus is horrible, no doubt, it is a nightmare for all of us. I hope we can all take the lessons from this horror to make better decisions for the future for people and the planet.
Giving Back
Being generous and giving back is always a wonderful thing to do. #GivingTuesday gives us all an opportunity to be generous. Here are some suggestions, and of course, giving to programs in your local area comes first.
Global Giving Coronavirus Relief Fund
Global Giving. “Your donation to this fund will help stop the virus’s spread and give communities on the front lines of the crisis the resources they need to act quickly and protect the most vulnerable. Donations are already helping to:
- Send doctors, nurses, and other front line responders to communities in need
- Get masks, ventilators, and other lifesaving medical supplies to hospitals and clinics
- Deliver essential items to struggling families and older individuals in quarantined cities and refugee camps
- Feed children that rely on school meals as their only source of nutrition
- Support hygiene awareness efforts
- And much, much more…”
North Texas Food Bank
I live in Dallas, so the North Texas Food Bank is always on my list, because I want my neighbors to have access to enough food.
ASPCA
Did you know that people have surrendered their pets because they think they might carry the virus? Shelters are full to bursting. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® works to save animals from bad situations. “We provide animals medical care and behavioral rehabilitation and help thousands of animals find loving homes every year. We respond to emergencies when disaster strikes, and fight for stronger laws to protect animals. When you become an ASPCA Guardian, your regular monthly gift allows us to spend less time fundraising—and more time saving lives.”
Marine Megafauna Foundation
MMF researches the world’s ocean giants to save them from extinction. MMF is one of my top nonprofits, and their research is vital to saving these endangered species. Check out supporting their research at http://www.marinemegafauna.org/.
World Wildlife Foundation
Mantatees have a difficult time, and help is always needed. They are such sweet, friendly creatures and recently I was able to kayak with them in Lovers Key State Park, Florida. Remember them this holiday season! World Wildlife has the cutest adoption sets ever! Confession: I bought a manatee for my granddaughter and a sea turtle for my grandboy this year! Manatee Adoption.
WWF also has “bucket” gifts. Make a donation to support WWF’s worldwide conservation efforts and select a special themed WWF bucket full of animals! Your donation provides general support to World Wildlife Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. 84% of WWF’s spending is directed to worldwide conservation activities. Give generously, there is no Planet B!
Join the fight for a healthy ocean and ecosystem! Join the Ocean Conservancy! Ocean Conservancy is a nonprofit environmental advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., United States. The organization helps formulate ocean policy at the federal and state government levels based on peer reviewed science. We need science based ocean, wildlife, climate, and natural resource policy based on Science, not whim or denial. “Our ocean unifies our world like nothing else. And saving it from ongoing threats is a cause that affects us all. We are on the front lines of ocean protection, investing in research, leadership and advocacy that advances science-based solutions that work.” There is no Planet B.
NatGeo Big Cat Initiative
Did you know that 90% of Africa’s lions have disappeared in the last 75 years? 90%. It is unimaginable that our planet will someday be so devastated that our treasured wild places and creatures will be gone. Help fight extinction of big cats with the Big Cat Initiative!
Save the Rhino!
They are in such desperate shape. We have already seen the Northern White Rhino and the Western Black Rhino become extinct in the wild. Did you know 2 Rhinos a day are poached in Africa for their horn? And poachers are willing to kill humans for the horns as well. Save the Rhino is a courageous and necessary organization to give to. Buy a stuffed Rhino and tell the recipient that you gave in their honor to Save the Rhino.
Give a gift of life and conservation!
Meet the Ocean
I met Paul North on an expedition to Antarctica. Paul is a polar diver and founder of Meet the Ocean, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on the importance of the saltwaters of our planet. Employing science, storytelling, and encounters from earth’s most remote locations, Meet the Ocean combats environmental apathy and further understanding of how the ocean functions, in order to better protect it. Paul’s podcast is well worth listening to, and if you ever have the chance to travel with him, believe me, it is well worth it! You can donate to Meet the Ocean HERE.
REEF
“All donations received on Tuesday, May 5, will be doubled, up to $5,000. The health of our oceans impacts us all, and now more than ever, it is important to take action. REEF relies on the support of individual donors like you to ensure that we can continue our critical work to protect biodiversity and ocean life.”
These are some of my favorite nonprofits, but there are so many more. I know these organizations would be grateful for your gift, and so would the rest of our planet. Happy giving!
