The historic King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort re-opened only 6 days after Hurricane Irma wreaked its fury on St. Simons Island, Georgia. All of the resort’s team worked throughout the 6 days following the storm along with many companies whose specialties brought the hotel back to its glory this week. With their timely and professional specialties, The King and Prince is delighted to welcome their leisure, group and wedding guests as scheduled.

In addition:

ECHO Restaurant and Bar is OPEN for dining

The Royal Treatment Cottage  is open for massage therapies

AND THERE ARE AUTUMN SPECIALS TO BE HAD! CHECK IT OUT!

Keeping our “Footprints” in the Sand by Going Green

The Historic Hotels of America is a program from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  The Trust has a sustainability initiative which focuses on the importance of reusing existing buildings.  As a Historic Hotel of America, The King and Prince is a part of this initiative.  The King and Prince Resort has their own “Going Green” programs to further these efforts.

The Resort has taken the following actions:

  • Two Tesla charging stations for guest use
  • Recycling of cardboard and paper in all staff areas.
  • Recycling of batteries
  • Recycling of ink cartridges
  • Eco-friendly disposal of fluorescent light bulbs
  • Cloth hand towels provided in public restrooms to reduce paper waste
  • Donation of discarded linens to local charities
  • Donation of outdated historical print materials to local schools
  • Usage of eco-friendly cleaning products for the vast majority of our general cleaning needs
  • Implementation of towel and linen re-use program in our guest rooms
  • Implementation of microfiber cleaning system
  • In-room recycling equipped with bio-degradable, eco-friendly bags.
  • Membership in the Clean the World Program
  • Utilization of low-flow shower heads and toilets
  • Recycling options for both plastic and aluminum in-room and throughout the hotel.

The Clean the World Program recycles and distributes soap to children around the world suffering from diseases that could be prevented by hand washing.  It also eliminates unnecessary waste filling up our land fills.  From May-July of this year, The King and Prince donated 270.4 pounds of soap.  This is equal to 2884 bars of soap, which provided soap for 289 children for one month.

Join us at Clean the Crow on September 16, 2017 for a cleanup event from 8am-10am!  Keep Dallas Beautiful has partnered with the City of Dallas and we’re asking for your help.

Come catch the litter flying in the breeze so Dallas can enjoy a clean park. Spend two hours to Keep Dallas Beautiful, then reward yourself for doing a good deed by enjoying the rest of the day at the Trinity Wind Festival.

What to Do and See in the Texas Hill Country…Don’t forget LBJ!

No visit to the Texas Hill Country is complete without visiting the LBJ State Park and Historical Site. Lyndon Baines Johnson was the 36th President of the United States, serving from 1963 through 1969. He was the Vice President of John F Kennedy, and took over the presidency upon Kennedy’s death. Many, even most, baby boomers remember his presidency well since it happened during the tumultuous 1960s, and his part in escalating the VietNam War was extremely controversial. Johnson was a Democrat, a United States Congressman who became a Senator and the Senate Majority Leader. He was chosen as JFK’s running mate, and became President in 1963.  Johnson’s “Great Society” and War on Poverty was his passion, sadly the war derailed his domestic policy. Johnson’s accomplishments tend to be forgotten now, but this is the President who passed Medicare and Medicaid, and created public television. He signed civil rights bills into law  that banned racial discrimination in public facilities, at work and in housing. The Voting Rights Act prohibited certain practices in southern states used since Jim Crow laws to disenfranchise African American voters (now many of those same states have voter ID laws, which also tends to disenfranchise the African American Vote). The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965  he signed changed the country’s immigration system by encouraging greater immigration from regions other than Europe, which is so much in the news in the 21st Century. Johnson’s presidency marked the peak of modern liberalism, and had he not been ruined by the war, it is hard to know what other programs and legislation would have been passed for the betterment of the citizenry.
