Waiting for Mexican fruit bats on a hot July night.

From March to November, Mexican fruit bats nest and live under the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge in downtown Austin. At dusk, they are seen coming out of the bridge, and it draws crowds. I was there with my friend Andrea and her little girl, and it was a dark, stormy night. The bats came flying out from under the bridge…then it started raining and they went bat shit crazy! It was certainly an interesting night!

When the rain started, half of them came back under the bridge.
