True City Luxury at The Mark in New York

True City Luxury at The Mark in New York

When visiting a city there is something magical about staying in a luxury hotel. When I visited Buenos Aires, the five-star Four Seasons hotel was one of the highlights of the trip. Every city has a hotel that stands above the rest in terms of location and extravagance. And if you are visiting New York for the first time, or the hundredth time, then the best hotel to stay in is The Mark.

Located on East 77th Street and Madison Avenue, the five-star hotel is one of the most prestigious establishments in the world. This is why it was awarded the number 1 spot in 2017’s ‘The World’s 100 Best City Hotels Award’. The hotel was built in 1927 and from 2006-2009 underwent a transformation that turned it into the luxury destination it is today. No expense was spared with the interiors, as they were redesigned by famed French interior designer Jacques Grange.

There are a range of rooms to stay in, with the Madison Queen Rooms the most affordable at $695 per night. It may sound steep, but the room has everything you would need for a luxury stay in the Big Apple. The sheets are made from fine Italian linen, and each room has a state-of-the-art entertainment system including a Creston panel that can control everything, from the TV to the air-conditioning, with a single touch.

At the other end of the price scale, The Mark also has the distinct honor of being the location of the country’s most expensive hotel room. According to a feature by Bloomberg, the 10,000 square-foot Mark Penthouse costs $75,000 a night. With 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a dining room for 12, 2 powder rooms, and 1 library lounge, as well as a private rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park, it certainly is the ultimate hotel room. It would unquestionably be the place to stay if you had won the $1.6 billion ($687,675,000 after tax) MegaMillions lottery last year, which Lottoland reports was the record jackpot. In fact, if you had won the full amount, CNBC worked out that a person could stay 9,169 nights, which is equal to 25 years, in the room. One can only dream though, and even spending one night is an eye watering amount to most people.

No matter which room you stay in, you will be treated to the finest service in New York. Town & Country details how the hotel offers guests a range of luxury experiences including “special access to Bergdorf Goodman-sponsored personal shoppers, a luxury hair salon, and desserts by Ladurée.”

On the gourmet side of things, the hotel unsurprisingly offers the best in New York dining. The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges is a hybrid bistro/diner, with a special menu created for the hotel by the 3-star Michelin chef. One menu highlight is The Mark cheeseburger with black truffle dressing and Brie. The Mark Bar is famous for its handcrafted and signature cocktails.

Other amenities include a world-class fitness center with personal training sessions. The only amenity the hotel doesn’t have is a swimming pool. However it does have a slightly different water experience, as you can always charter The Mark Sailboat for the day. Available during the spring and summer, guests can sail down the Hudson River and through the New York Harbor.

There is no match for The Mark in New York, and if you are looking to treat yourself with a luxurious weekend break it truly is the place to stay.
