Meatless Monday

Have you taken the pledge to join in on Meatless Monday? I have!

I know this is a travel blog, but I do, on occasion, talk about our environment since I am such an outdoor lover. So, from now on, Mondays will be Meatless Monday!

Take the pledge to go Meatless Monday! It isn’t that difficult to go without meat, at least a day or two a week. I’ve gone from being vegetarian to eating only fish 2 or 3 times a week, and I am trying to stop myself from doing that. When you do eat meat, I encourage you to try to eat grass fed, cageless, no antibiotics, no steroids, sustainable meat products. We cannot always be perfect, but we can try!

My daughter and I saw Dr Jane Goodall last year, and she encouraged everyone in the audience to be a vegetarian, or go one day a week without meat? Here is why:

Jane’s favorite statistic: According to Environmental Defense, if every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetarian foods instead, the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than half a million cars off of U.S. roads. See how easy it is to make an impact?(http://www.alternet.org/story/134650/the_startling_effects_of_going_vegetarian_for_just_one_day)

Your choices matter. Your every day choices matter tremendously. Can we all pledge to not eat meat one day a week? It is just one day a week! It would make such a huge difference! Won’t you take the pledge? I did!

One of my favorite meals is spaghetti with meat sauce. I make it with a meat substitute, and my favorite is Beyond Meat. This brand is somewhat new to me, but what I have tried, I have loved! Meat from plants is a great way to get your protein, and I agree with their Mission Statement: “We believe there is a better way to feed the planet. Our mission is to create mass-market solutions that perfectly replace animal protein with plant protein. We are dedicated to improving human health, positively impacting climate change, conserving natural resources and respecting animal welfare. At Beyond Meat, we want to make the world a better place and we’re starting one delicious meal at a time.” Find a store that stocks it near you!

Heart Smart Prego Sauce, Veggie pasta, Morning Star grillers crumblers, and various extra spices! Yum!
My husband is not a vegetarian, and I made this once without mentioning it is a meat substitute. He said it was the best sauce I’d ever made!

Have you made the pledge to go vegetarian one day a week? How are you doing it? What are your favorite meat substitutes?

By going meatless one day a week you are contributing so much to the planet! Encourage everyone to go meatless one day a week! TAKE THE PLEDGE.

I guarantee this guy wants you to eat meat free.
