Tam’s Best Travel Moments from 2018!

When most people think of RVs, they think of rough camping, backpacking and sleeping under the stars. Of course, that’s the beauty of an RV, but these stereotypes don’t have to be the only way.
All over the world, there are luxury RV parks that are complete with waterfall pools, beaches, chartered yachts and, basically, every elegance you could dream up. Who said RVing means that you just get a water supply and power line?

The Christmas Tree, Tannenbaum, is a German tradition. It began with bringing in boughs and wreaths and yule logs, and then the whole tree came into the home on Christmas Eve. In the old days, trees were decorated with candles, but we all know what a fire hazard that would be! There are flameless candle tapers for Christmas trees now, though. Decorating the Christmas Tree is still a German tradition! It came to America through Prince Albert, the German prince who married Queen Victoria of England. England happily adopted the tree, and so did America. Some of our favorite Christmas songs come from Germany as well, like Stille Nacht (Silent Night), and Oh Tannenbaum (Oh Christmas Tree).

We have always been a movie family, in fact, there are Minton Movies that are classics in our family: The Royal Tennenbaums, The Whole Nine Yards, The Ref, Christmas Vacation, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (animated, of course!), the list goes on. Now that our chicks are adults and we have one grandchild with another one on the way, we don’t sit around and watch The Miracle on 34th Street anymore (actually, they don’t, but I do!). Here is my list of Christmas movies that my family always enjoys, no matter how old anyone gets! [Read more…] about Christmas Movies for Empty Nest Parents and their Adult Kids!

The holidays are a magical time of year, and time to hit Deck the Hall Street! ✨ I adore the festivity and decor of the season! To me, December 1st officially kicks off the season so to get in the spirit, I hit up #deckthehallstreet at @fictioncoffeeshop ! For a month, Fiction Coffee transforms itself into a festive and cheerful Christmas themed wonderland with wreaths, lights, a tree and a fireplace with stockings. 🎄❄️⛄️ To boot, a custom mural painted by @allikdesign adorns the side of the building and festive coffee mugs in the shapes of Santa, reindeer and snowmen abound for customers dining in to enjoy their hot beverages. I enjoy the Fa La La Latte with cinnamon and lavender. There are other drinks cooked with a simple espresso machine like Peppermint Dreams and O Christmas Tea. There are also coffee free drinks like White Christmas Wassail and HoHoHot Cocoa!
I also have to point out that I will no longer be eating croissants. I’ve discovered Kouign amann and I’m never going back. It’s similar to a croissant but has a caramelized sugar bottom. The layers are flaky, buttery and sugary… a phenomenal combo with the crunch on the bottom. I can not recommend this pasty enough!! A++ for the Kouign amann!
Be sure to go visit this adorable shop for coffee and pastry (and @tacodeli tacos should you want a taco!) Dress warm if it’s cold out and grab a photo of your adorable holiday mug and the mural! It’ll be a new holiday tradition as it has become one for me!
