Pacific Terrace Hotel is a Hidden Gem on Pacific Beach in San Diego!

Pacific Terrace Hotel is a Hidden Gem on Pacific Beach in San Diego! I absolutely loved this hidden gem on Pacific Beach when I visited San Diego in December.

San Diego is a dream destination as there are few cities that can compare in sheer beauty and accessibility to the ocean. The dream city is on the far southern end of California, nestled between the ocean and mountains. The weather is almost always perfect. I actually did see, for the first time, a couple of days of rain in San Diego in December. It only added atmosphere to the locations I wanted to visit. Of course, the first consideration on any trip is where to stay. I wanted to do something a little different, so I searched for smaller, boutique hotels on the water, and I found a true hidden gem on Pacific Beach, the Pacific Terrace Hotel!

Our suite had the ocean for a view

Pacific Beach, known as PB, borders La Jolla to the north and Mission Beach and Bay to the south. Mission Boulevard runs from Mission Bay to La Jolla, so the driving could not be easier. PB used to be known as a surfer and college student area, but with real estate prices heading up, it has become more affluent while still retaining some of that bohemian feel. There are bars, restaurants and nightlife, but also a great pier and what seems like miles of stunning beach! Watching the surfers in the morning with my coffee was a perfect way to start the day.

The Pacific Terrace has a perfect location. It is just west off the main drag on a small side street at 610 Diamond Street. The traffic on Mission Boulevard can be congested at times, but Diamond Street to the west is never busy. There are a few houses, then the Pacific Terrace Hotel tucked into the corner. A valet greets you at the front door and divests you of your luggage and your car. All we had to do when we went out was call the front desk and our car was waiting for us. The hotel staff were courteous and anticipated every need. We enjoyed our cookies every evening at 5 p.m.!

Breakfast at Brockton Villa is a MUST!

The view from the room looks over the Pacific Beach Boardwalk to white sand beaches and 180 degrees of ocean view. The balcony was the perfect place for morning coffee and surfers. La Jolla is just a quick drive to the north where you’ll find cliffs, affluent homes and shopping, and great lookout points with sea lions. We had a lovely breakfast at Brockton Villa which is perfectly located on La Jolla Cove. The food was delicious and afterward we strolled down to visit with the sea lions. You can imagine how I loved them!

So, next time you stay in San Diego, take a look at Pacific Terrace Hotel, it is truly a hidden gem.
