Trying to stay fit while traveling is a major challenge! Don’t I know? On fabulous trips with delicious food, it is easy to miss workouts!
Of course, if you’re traveling somewhere like New Zealand and staying in a place like Absoloot Value Accommodation Queenstown you’re going to be surrounded by active people that flock to New Zealand in order to experience the great outdoors and live a very active lifestyle.
When you travel in unfamiliar environments you don’t have consistent access to the gym equipment you’re used to. Many resorts do have workout facilities, but they aren’t always the best. With that in mind, here are three top tips on how to stay fit while you are traveling.
On Demand Fitness Classes
Les Mills now offers an on-demand digital platform containing the world’s most popular gym classes such as Body Pump, Body Balance and Body Combat. This relatively low-cost subscription model (around $10 per month) means you have access to online classes anywhere in the world, presuming you have an internet connection… you can even save them offline, on your phone, to watch them anywhere you can think of; even in the jungle or a remote desert island.
Swim
Swimming is one of the best ways to keep in shape as it’s a great cardiovascular sport plus it works every major muscle group in your body. This is always my go to exercise when I am near the ocean. Diving or snorkeling is an amazing workout and encompasses fun and learning with exercise. You can explore a whole new world beneath the water! Also, if you can afford to pay a little extra for a hotel with a pool then you can have a fantastic workout at no extra cost, in the comfort and convenience of your hotel. Going somewhere cold? Check for hotels with indoor pool facilities!
Take Some Equipment With You
Clearly, you won’t want to be taking weights on your flight but there are plenty of small and lightweight pieces of equipment that you can take along. For instance, you could take some TRX bands, resistance bands, which are particularly effective at working your upper body, and a skip rope. Skipping is how boxers train because it provides a fantastic all over cardiovascular workout. Then, there is always the option to go for a nice long walk and explore the area. I’ve been known to take a yoga mat along on trips!
Hey, there are many ways to keep fit while traveling, and just because you don’t have a gym doesn’t mean you can’t continue to exercise and stay in shape while you’re traveling the world. Keep exploring, my friends!

Awesome post Tam!
Are there other fitness classes that you would recommend besides Tam Mills? I have been looking around online for a few others and I just wanted your thoughts.
For my job I do quite a bit of traveling around so I am looking for a workout that program that doesnt take too much time and can be done without equipment. From the research I have done it seems as though HIIT workouts are an effective way to exercise because it supposedly speeds up your metabolism more efficiently than most other workouts. Would you agree?
One user of some program that involves a series of HIIT exercises made a review http://simplefitnessproject.com/reviews/old-school-new-body/ and even claimed that he lost weight only working out 90 minutes a week. Is this possible?
If so, a sort of program such as this one would be perfect for me. However I am a bit skeptical that these claims are true.
Any advice? thanks

I am not a fitness expert, and I constantly struggle with my weight. I also like Yoga Glow, you can do yoga classes online any where you have an internet connection.

Hey, I agree with what HIIT workouts as my husband and I have been getting into them over the last 2 years. The results we’ve had is amazing, to say the least.
The program that you mentioned we’ve even bought and tried it ourselves after much research. Even though we aren’t fitness experts either this post https://bodhealthiness.com/old-school-new-body-review/ gives a clear picture of why that HIIT workout is so effective.
There is also a tonne of youtube videos you can check out to find more answers to your questions. Just search “Best HIIT workout” and the second video you see gives a pretty decent explanation.
Also, I want to point out that just exercise isn’t enough, we learned this after our first honeymoon vacation and eating everything we wanted. Your diet plays a crucial role in fat burning so do bear that in mind.
Whenever we vacay we always try to go somewhere that either has a pool or the ocean nearby as swimming is our favorite way to stay fit on a trip.
Solid post Tam, I’ll be checking out Les Mills and adding that to our todo list for our next trip!

Strong muscles do more than look good. They also protect us from conditions like arthritis and back pain, and help prevent falls in elderly people. And when you build strength through yoga, you balance it with flexibility.

I agree!

Traveling is sometimes part of our job and it’s true that if we really want to stay fit, there should be no excuses. You are right that we can either take fitness classes or take some equipment with us. Choose those that are hand carry and multi purpose.

It really is a challenge to stay fit while travelling. Especially for me, I have this tendency to eat whatever I want to enjoy the culture i’m in when I travel. What I usually do is find a place I could run on. Aside from having an exercise, it’s good that I see the place on foot. Anyways, great tips you have there, Tam. Cheers to you! 🙂

I like the idea of on-demand fitness classes. Do you ever join fitness classes in the places you travel to? It’s helped my girlfriend and I stay fit while traveling and we’ve met some really cool people doing so.

Hey Tam,
Great post, I’m not a fitness expert or nutritionist but I just wanted to add so when others read this they keep it in mind.
Always try to eat as healthy as possible when you are traveling.
The first time we did a cruise, the food sucked so much that we had to end up eating hamburgers for every meal. Needless to say, we did gain a bit of weight. But knowing what we know now proper nutrition and the right exercise plus our new found love for swimming has kept us in perfect health and weight no matter how often we travel.
