Take a look at these Fantastic Hotel Options in the Florida Keys! For those who love the ocean and all the water activities that implies, there are few more appealing destinations than the Florida Keys. The Florida Keys stretch down into the Atlantic Ocean south of Miami. The keys begin with Totten Key, and they continue southwest between the Bay of Florida and the Florida Straits. The coral cay archipelago has over 1700 keys, most too small to inhabit, with many accessible only by boat. The Florida Keys were named by Ponce de Leon, who charted the islands in 1513. “Cayo” is the Spanish word for “small island,” hence the name, the Florida Keys. From Key Largo, one continues to Islamorada, Marathon, and the sunset capital of the United States, Key West. Seven Mile Bridge extends from Marathon to the city of Key West, the southernmost point of the United States, 90 miles from the island of Cuba.
