I love Chicago. If you have been there, you know what I mean! Yes, it is too cold to live there (at least for me!), but I’ll take many more visits! I went to the Art Institute, and saw Marc Chagall’s White Crucifixion in person. I absolutely love Chagall’s work, and am fortunate to have some of his Lithographs. Seeing this work in person, up close, was incredibly moving, and exciting, and I could hardly drag myself away. Chicago’s Art Institute is a marvel, but the city, by itself, is art as well.
Next week, more art!

Our daughter is a grad student at SAIC and goes to the Art Institute daily. When we were there a few weeks ago we went a few times, and when we passed this painting, she pointed out the monkey in the bottom right corner. Sometimes it pays to have your own art historian, if only to find the monkeys. I am also a fan of Chagall’s work. Did you get to see his mosaic mural at the Chase Center? I have a piece on it next week.

Yes, it does! I did see the stained glass, is that what you mean?

One of my favorite places…I long to spend more time there someday. We had to rush out after lunch to catch a flight.

Thank you for the great detail from both paintings. I was most interested in the Chagall painting, since I was not familiar with it. Thought provoking for sure.

An incredible piece, and so fascinating to me. I love what he conveyed to the world through this important work. On Wednesday I am posting more! It’s a huge place, so it needs two photo blogs!

I love Chicago but never had time to visit the Art Institute. I have to go back to see these paintings. I’m a huge Chagall fan.

This piece fascinates me, and for that matter, so does Chagall. Have you ever read any of Chaim Potok’s books on Hasidim and/or Orthodox Judaism? He wrote a book, “My Name is Asher Lev” that is based on Chagall…if you love to read, this book is one of my very, very favorites. The sequel, “The Gift of Asher Lev” is even better, I think!

Thank you for this interesting art class. Please do more. I, also, love Chicago and once wore out a pair of shoes walking up and down the Miracle Mile.

It is a great walking city! Stay tuned on Wednesday for the second part of my favorite paintings at the Art Institute.

I love Chicago too and am with you, could not live there in the winter. Ever. Love the images you chose to share from the exhibit, just last week another blogger shared one of his gorgeous pieces of stained glass. His work is arresting.

Chagall and Seurat are two of my favorite painters! I love Chicago, too, but I agree with you about the winters. I was there for BlogHer in 2013 and adored being in the city. Can’t wait to go back.

I love it. Check me out on Wednesday, I have another photo blog on the modern art at the institute!
