Have you ever heard of the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown, Texas? It’s time you did! Make your plans now for three days of family festivities!
(GEORGETOWN, Texas) Georgetown, Texas, the “Red Poppy Capital Of Texas,” will celebrate spring and its signature red poppies with the 19th Annual Red Poppy Festival April 27-29th, in and around The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas.
The town’s association with the red poppy started when Henry Purl Compton (aka “Okra”), who served in the American Expeditionary Forces, sent poppy seeds from Europe to his mother at the end of World War I. She planted them at her home near the square and they were eventually spread throughout the area by birds, bees and people.
In 1990, Georgetown was certified by the Texas Legislature as the “Red Poppy Capital of Texas.” Georgetown is one of the few places in the United States where red poppies grow naturally every year, and the town embraces their vivid blooming with three days of live music, a grand parade, classic car show, 5K run, contests, art, food and family fun.
WHAT: 19th Annual Red Poppy Festival; Admission is free
WHEN: Friday, April 27th starting at 6 p.m. through Sunday, April 29th; check website closer to date for specific daily times and full listing of events
WHERE: In and around Downtown Georgetown, along the historic town square. Directions available on festival website from Austin and Waco/Dallas/Fort Worth.

I finished my international travel of 2017 in Mexico. First, a fantastic and fun trip in October to my second home in Cozumel (we rent it! www.vrbo.com/368692) with three of my blogger friends, and a wonderful trip in December to the Sea of Cortez and La Paz with Red Travel Mexico! I love both coasts of Mexico, they are so radically different. The east side is jungle and rain forest with calm, clear, blue waters, and the west is almost desert, with mountains and the ocean waves. Both are beautiful.

Want to see some Awesome Travel Photos from Texas during 2017? As I think I have mentioned before (hundreds of times!) I love traveling in Texas. I haven’t made it all over the state yet, and I certainly want to, but I have done some great exploration in the Hill Country. I know I have just scratched the surface, but check out my amazing Texas travel photos!
I had a wonderful opportunity to be hosted by Fall Creek Vineyards for their annual Grape Stomp. I didn’t know what to expect (other than the I Love Lucy show), but it was so much fun I want to do it again! Thank you to Fall Creek Vineyards for having me! I loved it, and I highly recommend everyone go to it at the end of the summer!
Ham Orchard will reopen in midMay! Put it on the calendar, folks!
I traveled to Austin quite a bit this year, my son and his wife now live there, and my first grandbaby was born in November! Adaline Rose is a dream come true! I am now a grandmother, as hard as it is (for me, anyway) to believe!
You will enjoy these posts as well, and 3 of them are from my 3 blogging buddies, and together we are #4TravelChicas!

The Sierra Laguna Biosphere was epic!!!!
After two days and six dives in Cabo Pulmo, adventures with bull sharks and fish tornadoes, we were off to Sierra Laguna Biosphere, ready for a change of scene. Our fantastic Red Travel Mexico guide, Christian, had a little disappointing news for us. A “norte” (a storm where the winds come from the north and are cold) was closing in on La Paz, making our trip to Espiritu Santo to see whale sharks and sea lions unlikely. To save you the suspense, the winds were high and the ports were closed, so we were unable to participate in that itinerary. Thankfully, we had a flexible, seasoned group who knew that Red Travel and Travels with Tam can’t control the weather. Instead, we enjoyed other areas of the Baja, which means we’ll need to go back to Espiritu Santo another time! Something to look forward to.
