Cross the Canadian Border in your RV!
If you’re an American planning on embarking on an RV road trip into Canada, you should know that you will embark on a trip that will be equally as fun as it is memorable. If you’re not sure about where to go yet, Outdoorsy is a great resource to help research the best Canadian RV destinations.
But you should also know that since you’re obviously going to have to cross the border to get into Canada, there are some things you should know.
Here are the top tips you need to follow to safely and smoothly cross the Canadian border in your RV:
Plan Extra Travel Time
Once you reach the U.S-Canadian border, the first thing you will notice is that there will be hundreds of assorted vehicles all backed up as they await their turn. While it largely depends on the time of day and year you arrive in regards to how long the line will be, plan on waiting at least thirty minutes to an hour before you talk to the border guard and are allowed entry.
Bring Your Vehicle Registration and Insurance
Just like in America, you must have your vehicle insurance and registration at all times. While you won’t be required to present it to the border guard, it is legally required for you to have in Canada.
Bring Your Passport
As you may have anticipated, crossing the Canadian border will require you to bring your passport. The only exceptions for where you won’t need your passport is if you are traveling internationally and have an enhanced driver’s license, or if you enter and exit Canada repeatedly and have a NEXUS card.
Bring A Rabies Vaccination Certificate (If You Have Pets)
Are bringing dogs and/or cats with you on your RV trip? If so, then you will need to bring a rabies vaccination certificate so long as your pets are older than three months old. Your vaccination certificate can only be provided to you from a certified veterinarian, and they will be valid for anywhere from one to three years.
The only types of pets that are exempt from needing a rabies vaccination certificate to enter Canada is if you have a service dog. Otherwise, you will need the certificate.
Keep Your License Plate Number Handy
The border guard will likely ask you for your license plate number, so you’ll either need to know it off the top of your head or have it written down on a piece of paper that you can show them.
Crossing The Canadian Border
An RV road trip in Canada is one of the best journeys that you can possibly take, especially in the summer. At the same time, there are many rules that you will need to follow to cross the border, but the tips you have learned in this article will help make everything go as smoothly as possible.

Adventurous women also love good food! The #4TravelChicasinCozumel had the honor of a tasting at Cozumel’s Buccano’s at Night restaurant, and it is a tasting none of us will ever forget! The food at Buccanos was not only good, but outstanding! Ines Falkenberg and her two children, Carina and Bosco Barbachano are a trio of incredible talent. Ines and Bosco have incredible creativity when it comes to food, and Carina is an excellent artist and her art is very evident at Buccanos. She also does graphic design for the restaurant. (Check out her art at https://www.facebook.com/art.caribarbachano/.)

To say that I have been haunted by mystical Cornwall all of my life is an understatement! Just the name thrills me! Cornwall is a land where fairies, and piskies (“the little people”), and ghosts roam; where Percival threw Excalibur into Dozmary Pool; the birthplace of Arthur Pendragon (Tintagel) and the lovers Tristan and Isolde….and the setting of the novels I avidly read growing up. Daphne du Maurier’s classic novel, Jamaica Inn; and a host of novels written by Victoria Holt, aka Phillippa Carr, aka Jean Plaidy. While growing up my imagination took wing, and I could see the ghostly images of the Nine Maidens turned to stone because they danced on a Sunday; the Hurlers and the Pipers who were also turned to stone for the same reason; Jamaica Inn, home of wreckers and pirates and smugglers; the Mermaids of Zennor and Padstow. I will never forget the Cheesewring, a granite geological feature on Bodmin Moor which was created by giants; St Michael’s Mount, where a young boy named Jack led an angry Giant to his death. Yes, Cornwall is a land of magic! For All Hallows Eve this year, I will haunt you with my dreams and memories of Cornwall. [Read more…] about I Have Been Haunted by Mystical Cornwall
#4TravelChicasinCozumel! Yes, indeed, that is our hashtag! Four travel bloggers who met online 3 years ago and who have formed a blog consortium of sorts, 4 Times the Fun, and 4 times the audience! with Adventures of Empty Nesters (Suzanne Stavert from Pasadena, CA), Travel with Sara (Sara Broers from Mason City, IO), Wherever I May Roam blog (Melody Pittman from Vero Beach, FL), and of course, me, Travels with Tam from Dallas, Tx! We are a support system, we share each other’s posts, guest blog, and promote one another whenever possible. We have met only a couple of times at travel conferences, but we have a connection and enjoy being together, so here we are, hanging out in Cozumel, at Villa Coronado, and having fun, often odd, adventures all over the island. There hasn’t been a dull moment! Check out the hashtag, #4TravelChicasinCozumel all over social media, and join in the fun we have had this week! It has been wonderful to see the island through the eyes of my friends! And it is a good thing they have a sense of humor (which is necessary when traveling with Tam). Stay tuned!
I am Enjoying my 15 minutes of Fame Talking About What I Love!
I have been enjoying my time in the sun, and in front of the camera, on the microphone, not to mention several reviews and articles that have been written and published! Publishing my first book, ALL FISH FACES: Photos and Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish, has put me in the spotlight. Talking about solo travel, citizen science, diving, and promoting ocean conservation has been amazingly fun! We all enjoy talking about the things that we are knowledgeable about, or that we are passionate about, don’t we? At least, I do! (check out my author page for full listing of events, appearances and articles!)
On October 9 I had the pleasure of going to Tyler Texas to be interviewed by Bryan Boes, of CBS19 Tyler. He was very enthusiastic about the ocean and curious about diving and the changes I have seen under the water line in the last 30 years. I told him he needed come scuba diving with me! He’s welcome to pop on down to Cozumel where I can show him some very cool fish!
On October 13 I spent 30 minutes visiting with Lisa and Nancy on Big Blend Radio and TV Magazine! They were fun and also curious about my perspective on solo travel, my citizen science trips, and my fun book! They are very active in promoting our National Parks and keeping them safe from business interests and political maneuverings. We talked about our apex predators, both on land and in the sea. They need protection, and Nancy and Lisa, a mother daughter team, are among those seeking protection for them. That was a fun 30 minutes! They publish a wonderful magazine called Parks and Travel.
On October 16 I was so excited to be on Good Morning Texas on WFAA Channel 8 with Jane McGarry! We had a great time chatting and laughing, and her questions were direct and to the point. Both of the tv shows highlighted video of my dives, and pictures of my book. It has been a thrill, I can tell you that!
Stay tuned for more appearances!
