My New Kid’s Book Series has Arrived with Book Two of Ocean Friends, More Fish Faces! I have to admit that I am very excited about it!
You all know how passionate I am about the ocean and about animals, especially ocean animals. I have traveled to all seven continents and had incredible experiences. Going on citizen science expeditions have been some of the most fulfilling trips of my life. I’ve been cage diving with Great White Sharks, seen Dwarf Minke Whales, Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, Gray Whales, Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, and taken photographs for scientific identification of many other species. I have loved every moment of it, and I share what I have learned in my new book series, Ocean Friends!

Our Planet’s Plastic Problem, can an old dog learn new tricks? I think we can, and we definitely need to. This is a problem that exists in all modern cultures, so we all must learn new tricks. The New 2nd Edition of my book, All Fish Faces, just released, and it has great tips for helping our oceans, not just for kids, but for everyone!
We have a problem. A plastic problem. It is a huge problem, a problem in all of our oceans and on all of our continents, and if you aren’t aware of it, you must be living under a rock! I don’t want to go through the data and bore you, so suffice it to say that our planet is overwhelmed with plastic on land and sea. Did you know that animals and humans are ingesting micro-plastics? Microplastics are small plastic pieces less than five millimeters, often much smaller. They are in our food supply. Some estimate that we eat the equivalent of a credit card a week! If you think that is good for the human body, think again! You can google the data yourself, it is fact, and you cannot argue with facts. If you are a parent or a grandparent and care about your children, learn to teach an old dog new tricks!

Climate Change is a serious issue, and our oceans are under heavy stress. Every time I go on a dive trip, I see how much more bleaching there is, how many fewer fish there are, and how much warmer the water is. How can we truly make a difference, and assure our children and grandchildren understand the problem and the stakes involved? Grandma and Grandpa need to pay attention as well, since we are the ones leaving an over heating planet to our descendants.
My book, ALL FISH FACES, Photos and Fun Facts about Tropical Reef Fish seeks to educate by sharing photographs of reef fish faces! Along with the photos and fun facts about fish, there are suggestions on how we can each make simple changes in our lives that could make a big difference.
In addition, I am adding videos about these fish to my YouTube, and I would love for you to take a look, and of course, subscribe! Let’s spread the word, and maybe by learning about our fishy friends, we might also learn that we need to make changes if we want to keep our oceans, and our lives, intact.
