Why You Should Only Wear Reef Safe Biodegradable Sunscreen

Why should you only wear Biodegradable Sunscreen? There are several reasons, and the first reason is the coral reefs in our oceans.

It breaks my heart to see so much bleached coral. Be sure to wear biodegradable sunscreen brands and we wouldn’t have so much bleaching!

ALMOST ALL POPULAR SUNSCREEN BRANDS ARE FULL OF CHEMICALS HARMFUL TO CORALS

What you do above, matters below.
Imagine how many chemicals are dumped into the ocean by chemical sunscreen alone!

What happens when people, and I mean millions of people, wear sun protection full of chemicals when they are in the ocean? Well, the sunscreen lotion rinses off, and scatters the ingredients of that sunscreen throughout the marine environment. The vast majority of sunscreens people use are not biodegradable sunscreen, and contain chemicals that are poisonous and harmful to the reef and to corals. Oxybenzone, also known as “benzophenone-3” or “BP-3” is one of 7 sunscreen chemicals that are very disrupting to coral reproduction, causes coral bleaching, and actually damages coral DNA! Butylparaben is a common preservative ingredient in sunscreens shown to cause coral bleaching.

**A reminder: Why are Coral Reefs important to sustain human life? Coral reefs are a source of food for millions of people, protect coastlines from storms and erosion, provide habitat, spawning and nursery grounds for economically important fish species, provide jobs and income to local economies from fishing, recreation, and tourism, are a source of new medicines, and are hotspots of biodiversity. Chasing Coral research shows that 90% of coral reef systems will be gone by 2050. 2050! My youngest grandchild will be 30 years old, and most of our reef systems will be gone?? That does not bode well for a planet that needs the ocean for human life to survive here.

BIODEGRADABLE IS BETTER FOR ALL ENVIRONMENTS, NOT JUST THE OCEAN.

Biodegradable products and sunscreens are better for all environments, because as they biodegrade, they do so harmlessly in the environment.

BIODEGRADABLE IS BETTER FOR HUMAN SKIN AND HEALTH!

“Oxybenzone has been shown to penetrate the skin and cause photo-sensitivity. As a photocarcinogen, it has demonstrated an increase in the production of harmful free radicals and an ability to attack DNA cells; for this reason, it is believed to be a contributing factor in the recent rise of Melanoma cases with sunscreen users. Some studies have shown it to behave similarly to the hormone estrogen, suggesting that it may cause breast cancer. It has also been linked to contact eczema and allergies.” Read more about the damage to you and your skin at

Killing coral can also kill YOU.
Brain coral, bleaching.
