6 Tips for Saving Money on Your Trip to Las Vegas

When someone mentions a trip to Las Vegas, images of casinos, showgirls, and all you can eat buffets probably come to mind. These thoughts are then followed by thoughts of just how much money it will take to experience it all. With these tips, you can take an enjoyable trip to Las Vegas without a huge hit to your bank account.

1. Prepare Meals

One of the largest costs while traveling is your food. In a place like Las Vegas, it can be very tempting to just grab food at the local joints or splurge on fancy dinners on the strip. You’d be surprised just how much this will cost you.

Save yourself a few hundred dollars by stopping at the grocery store when you arrive. You don’t have to cook every single meal while you are there. But if you prepare one meal per day during your stay, your food costs can be cut almost in half!

2. Plan Ahead

Find dining options that are affordable, while still providing you with that ‘on vacation’ luxurious feeling. A Summerlin Restaurant in the area do a tremendous job with this. On Tuesdays, you can find delicious taco plates and bottomless margaritas at Hearthstone Las Vegas for just $24 per person!

You are not going to find a great offer like that in many places. Their events page is full of other deals like half off pizza on Sundays, wine discounts and more so be sure to check that out and see which deal is best for you.

Another tip when planning out your dining is to visit fancy restaurants at breakfast/lunch, not dinner time. The easy way to try out a nice restaurant without overspending is by visiting during breakfast or lunch hours. You’ll save loads of money, while still getting to experience the food and setting. These times will most likely be less crowded and you may even receive better service because of this. Most Restaurants also offer lunch menus with lighter portions and more budget-friendly prices than their dinner menu.

3. Enjoy the FREE Attractions

While there are plenty of attractions you could spend your time and money on, there are also plenty of free attractions as well.

Adding these locations to your list of must-see attractions will fill up your trip fast and for little to no cost:

Bellagio Fountains

The perfect Las Vegas Photo opportunity and a great way to relax in the evening.

Bellagio Botanical Gardens

Inside the world famous hotel is a lush garden for you to explore.

Flamingo Wildlife Habitat

Inside the Flamingo Hotel, you can visit with swans, koi fish, and flamingos, as well as a few other feathered friends.

The Fremont Street Experience

You can enjoy live bands, street performances, and entry into bars and clubs on Fremont, all without spending a dollar.

Circus Circus.

Free Acrobatic Performances

4. Enjoy FREE Booze

Yes, you read that correctly. Free booze. In casinos, if you are gambling, a cocktail waitress will make her way around to you and ask if you would like a drink. The drink is free, but tipping is highly encouraged. If you don’t tip, then don’t expect her to make her way around to you again.

If you’re playing a table game with several other players, she is more likely to stop by. However, playing the slots is more relaxing than sitting at the table with other players and the dealer. As long as the waitress sees that you’re actively playing the slot and not just resting your feet and back, they will come by and get you a drink.

Another way to get “free” drinks is at the Sportsbook. You can bet as little as a few dollars on a 3-hour football game, set your ticket in front of you, and she will be around to take care of you.

5. Use the Monorail

Unfortunately, the days of free parking on the Las Vegas Strip have come to an end. But this doesn’t mean you’ll have to spend extra money to get up and down Las Vegas Blvd. Running from the MGM Grand on the southern end of the Strip to SLS Hotel and Casino on the northern side, the Las Vegas Monorail makes multiple stops along the way. This is not only convenient if you’ve had a couple drinks and want to avoid driving, but it also saves you valuable time and money when trying to get from one casino to another.

6. Consider purchasing a Las Vegas Pass

The Las Vegas Pass is designed for all tourists and visitors to the city, both with and without families, who want to see the best of Vegas while saving money. It’s an electronic sightseeing pass that works on a scan-and-enter system and which acts as your ticket into Vegas’s best attractions, tours, and museums.

This sightseeing pass includes admission to over 55 attractions, live shows, tours and more.

2, 3, and 5-day passes can be purchased, with prices starting at $230 and topping out at $450. These passes also include experiences such as the Stratosphere Tower and the exciting Voodoo Zip Line!

This pass also offers a ‘fast track entry’ for several of Vegas’ top attractions so you don’t have to wait in the long lines. And after your adventures, you can also use your Las Vegas Pass to cash in on some discounts and special offers at dining and retail venues.

We hope that with these tips you can enjoy your Las Vegas vacation with the peace of mind that you are using your money intelligently. Don’t forget that free is always better, and there is a surprising amount of things to do for free in Vegas.
