3 Ways to Plan on Having a Happy New Year in 2022!
Yes, we are still in the Covid pandemic. I could choose to be glum and frustrated, and so could everyone else. I’d been planning my first citizen-science dive trip since Covid began, a fabulous multi-day trip to the Maldives! When it was over, I decided to spend a few days in Singapore. The trip was canceled. Yes, I am very disappointed. The new variant has spread like wildfire, and I understand that the trip was canceled for good reason. I am one of many who have lost loved ones to COVID, so I do understand the cancellation. For those of us who love to travel, the pandemic has greatly affected our lives. So, what to do what about it?

I have chosen 3 Ways to plan on having a happy new year, regardless of the Omicron variant. COVID is not going to determine my mood or my life.
Be Grateful
I am grateful for my good health and the health of my family. Things are not perfect. My aunt and second mother passed away in the fall from Covid, and to say I was shocked is an understatement. It has been a very tough time, but I’m grateful that my husband, who is a double lung transplantee, has remained safe, my children and their children have been healthy, and I have been healthy. I am grateful to every single person who wears a mask and shows a modicum of care for others. I am grateful to all those who have been vaccinated and boosted. This is a pandemic, not a political statement. Masks work and the vaccines work. Nothing is 100 percent, but I’m grateful for those who care enough for others that they take precautions. I wear masks, I am vaxxed and boosted. For myself, I will have a Happy New Year in 2022 when people show that they care about others. There’s nothing to it, and why do doctors wear masks? They do it so they don’t get their patients sick!
Stay Busy
Not going to the Maldives this January is sad, but I can find a lot of other things to do to keep busy. I’ve lived in my house for 30 years and you cannot imagine all the STUFF that needs to be sorted through, donated, and thrown away. I’m also keeping in touch with friends, joining in online activities, and I’m learning the Ukulele! It has been super fun and has kept me entertained. There are online book clubs, too. I’m going out and living my life by wearing a mask and staying at a distance from others. It is my belief that life goes on, and though I’m careful, I’m not going to stop living. I’m planning on having a happy new year!
Plan!
I’m making future plans for travel. I can’t go to the Maldives, but I’ve decided to go to Key Largo and Cozumel to dive this spring. I’m planning a trip to Nova Scotia and the Galapagos for summer. Last year I went on a dive trip to the Bahamas to dive with Tiger Sharks, I went to Monterey, CA with family and did a dive, and I went to San Diego with my cousin. We can still go places; we just have to plan in advance and do our research.
These are the 3 Ways I am planning on having a happy new year in 2022. What is your plan?
